Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. All rooms are double occupancy, except La Jungla is a quad occupancy. Come with a roommate or we’ll pair you up with a same gender roommate.
-
All levels welcome. Newbies and experienced practitioners alike.
We always encourage everyone to go at their own pace. Listen to your body and honor what is appropriate for you.
Modifications and variations are offered in the yoga classes.
And remember, everything is optional. So take what you need, and leave what you don’t. And always listen to your own body. Even if that means taking rest for the whole class. This is your time!
-
Yes. There are scheduled free time throughout each day, and all scheduled activities are optional. This is your time to nourish yourself as you like.
-
We will have a group dinner in town on our last night together (Day 4). You are welcome to explore town on your own for local shopping and dining experiences as you like.
-
No. This is a private villa set up to host small groups / retreats. As such, there will NOT be any hotel / resort staff to wait upon you.
We will have a catered chef who comes in daily to make us freshly catered meals each day.
-
The villa sits on a hill overlooking the ocean. There are stairs to navigate between street level to pool deck, pool deck to lower level, lower level to upper level, and upper level to roof deck dining.
There are NO elevators on site. So pack your luggage accordingly, and be ready to get in a little cardio each day as you move between the levels.
-
The town of San Pancho has a few ATMs. However, they are sometimes known to run out of money. So best to get some MX pesos exchanged before arriving, if possible.
There are ATMs at PVR airport, right before exiting the airport. This is an easy option.
-
There are small convenience stores, fruit & vegetable vendors, and some tourist clothing and souvenir shops in the town of San Pancho.
For a large supermarket, you can ask your shuttle driver to stop on the way, from PVR to Alma Vida. This is commonly done, and the shuttle drivers will know where to take you.
Some people choose to stop at the large supermarket along the way to pick up things they forgot to pack, or to get a bunch of snacks, fruit, or preferred beverages.
We will have plenty of food, fruit, coffee and teas at the retreat. However, if there is something in particular you would like to have, then you might consider making a stop at the large supermarket on your way from PVR to Alma Vida.
-
This is one of the most powerful parts of the retreat.
A Temazcal is an ancient Mesoamerican sweat lodge ceremony, traditionally used for purification, healing, and renewal.
On site at Alma Vida Retreats, you'll enter a dark, dome-shaped space that represents the womb of the earth. Inside, heated volcanic stones (“abuelitas” — grandmothers) radiate intense heat as water and herbs are poured over them, creating waves of steam.
It’s more than a sauna, it’s a guided purification ritual.
The purpose is to sweat out what you’ve been carrying — physically, emotionally, mentally — and release.
-
Yes. Once you’ve registered, we’ll send you a questionnaire to inquire about any dietary restrictions. All meals are chef catered, except our 1 dinner in town together.
-
San Pancho is located in a tropical jungle setting, on the Pacific Ocean in Mexico. The weather in October should still be warm, but not as hot and humid as the summer months. Occasional rain showers can still occur during this time.
-
Pack your bathing suits, yoga clothes, lounge wear, comfortable clothing that move well and breath, layers for cooler mornings and evenings, a loose-fitting long skirt/ dress for sweating in the Temazcal, walking shoes for cobblestone roads into town, water shoes if you like for the ocean, sandals/flip flops for lounging at the villa.
Bring insect repellent spray, sunscreen, headlamp for walking to town at night, sun hat, sun glasses journal & pen/pencil, phone chargers, ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper, sarongs & beach bag, and your Magnificent Vacation-Ready SELF!!!
There are stairs to navigate on the property, so packing light is always easier. But we’ve got some strong folks with us that can help with lugguge if need.
-
The town of San Pancho is about a 20 minute walk, either along the beach or on the cobblestone streets. Bring shoes that will protect your feet for walking, and a headlamp for walking at night.
-
PVR (Puerto Vallarta), is the nearest International Airport. This is where we will be arranging shuttles from/to.
Best to get a flight that arrives in the early afternoon so that you have plenty of time to get settled before dinner on the first night.
-
It takes about an hour to shuttle from PVR (Puerto Vallarta International Airport) to Alma Vida, in San Pancho.
Some groups like to stop at the large supermarket on the way to the retreat center, which adds additional time.
-
All foreign visitors entering Mexico must present a valid passport, which should ideally be valid for at least six months beyond their arrival date.
A valid passport book is required for air travel.
No visa is required for tourist stays under 180 days, but a filled-out Multiple Digital Migration Form (FMMd) is necessary.
